GenAI Policies

Chapter 1: General Provisions

Article 1: Purpose
In response to the widespread application of Generative Artificial Intelligence technology in academic publishing, the Editorial Office of Global Academic Frontiers hereby establishes this policy to define standards, ensure transparency, and uphold academic integrity.

Article 2: Core Principles

  1. Principle of Human Agency: GenAI tools are assistive instruments and cannot replace the authors' core intellectual contribution, professional judgment, and ultimate responsibility for their work.

  2. Principle of Full Oversight: Authors must exercise strict, continuous supervision, critical evaluation, and substantive modification over the use of GenAI tools.

  3. Principle of Mandatory Transparency and Disclosure: Any use of GenAI tools in the preparation or review of a manuscript must be explicitly declared.

  4. Principle of Rights Compliance and License Compatibility: Authors must ensure their use of GenAI tools complies with the tools’ terms of service. Any generated content must be capable of being lawfully distributed as part of the manuscript under the Creative Commons license adopted by this journal.

Chapter 2: Author Responsibilities and Usage Guidelines

Article 3: Creation and Modification of Textual Content

  1. Permitted Uses: The use of GenAI tools for language polishing, grammar checking, formatting adjustments, or assisting in structuring the narrative is permitted.

  2. Prohibited Acts: It is prohibited to use GenAI tools to directly generate core academic content (e.g., literature reviews, results, discussions, conclusions) and submit it as original work with only minimal modification. Using GenAI tools to fabricate data, invent citations, or generate false academic viewpoints is strictly forbidden.

  3. Disclosure Requirement: Authors must submit a complete “Declaration on the Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence” as specified in Article 6 of this policy.

Article 4: Images, Visual Content, and Data

  1. General Prohibition: The use of generative AI tools to create, modify, or enhance original data images produced in research (such as graphs, photographs, micrographs) is prohibited, unless the AI technology is an integral part of the research methodology.

  2. Requirements for Methodological Use: If the research design involves the use of GenAI tools to generate or analyze images/data, a detailed and reproducible technical description must be provided in the “Methods” section. The editors reserve the right to request original data and intermediate files from the AI processing stage for verification.

  3. Copyright and Portrait Rights: Using GenAI tools to generate images or artworks that infringe upon the copyright, trademark, or portrait rights of others is prohibited.

Article 5: Authorship and Attribution
GenAI tools do not qualify for authorship and must not be listed as authors or acknowledged in any capacity under any circumstances.

Chapter 3: Submission, Review, and Publication Process

Article 6: Author Obligations upon Submission

  1. Upon submission, authors must confirm in the submission system that they have read and complied with this policy.

  2. A complete “Declaration on the Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence” must be submitted as a supplementary file. The declaration template is as follows:

Article 7: Editing and Review

  1. The author's declaration will be treated as an essential component of the manuscript review by the Editorial Office.

  2. Reviewers should consider the transparency of GenAI use, with the core of their assessment focused on the scholarly value and methodological rigor of the research.

  3. The Editorial Office reserves the right to utilize image integrity screening software and text similarity detection tools to assist in the editorial process. Suspicious findings will trigger a rigorous manual evaluation.

Chapter 4: Non-Compliance Handling and Policy Revision

Article 8: Consequences of Non-Compliance
If an author is found to have violated this policy, including but not limited to failure to declare use, false declaration, or use of GenAI tools for academic misconduct, the journal will take one or more of the following measures based on the severity of the case:
